Coronavirus Update: Cases and Testing, SIP with Sara Zoom Call, and Staff Survey

Case and Testing Update

I am happy to report that there are still zero resident cases of COVID-19 in our communities.

This week, a staff member at Eastern Park Apartments (EPA), one of our Affordable Housing communities, tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is currently self-isolating and is feeling well. All EPA residents, staff, and contractors were notified, and all floors and common areas have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

The staff member from The Sequoias Portola Valley who tested positive in late June is also isolating at home and doing well.

SIP with Sara on Saturday, July 11

The second SIP with Sara Zoom conversation for CCRC residents takes place this Saturday, July 11. I’m looking forward to sharing an overview of what’s next for Sequoia Living and hearing ideas and questions. Recordings of the calls will also be available.

Staff Survey Update

282 Sequoia Living staff members contributed to our culture by completing a short survey about COVID-19 and our “new next.”
Next week we will begin sharing survey results and having conversations about actions we can all take to continue to ensure Sequoia Living remains a great place to live and work.

• Almost 100% of Sequoia Living staff approve of our COVID-19 Action Plan.
98% of Home Office staff and 92% of staff in Sequoia Living Communities are aware we have zero resident cases of COVID-19.
75% of staff would like regular financial updates.

The word clouds below summarize some key themes staff expressed in the survey.

Staff concerns include:

  • Physical and mental health of residents.
  • Staffing and supplies in the event of an outbreak.
  • Lack of COVID-19 vaccine, economic downturn.
  • Concern about other people’s social distancing compliance and/or bringing the virus home.
  • Job retention/stability.

People are most grateful for family, friends, residents, their jobs, and coworkers. The word cloud above  is a great reminder of how resilient and connected our culture and our people are despite all that is occurring in the world.

Staff also had great suggestions for our continued success, including:

  • Increase marketing efforts to highlight benefits of living in a CCRC.
  • Continue being transparent.
  • Have goals on the horizon—something to look forward to.
  • Keep coming up with ideas for us to stay connected and have fun.
