Never Stop Finding New Paths: Meet Sally

After a life rooted in education, volunteerism, and family, Sally Knorp found her next chapter in a welcoming retirement community in Portola Valley, a life plan community – The Sequoias Portola Valley. Sally’s story is one of continued growth, purpose, and connection.
Roots in Learning and Service
Sally grew up in Orinda in the 1940s and 1950s, a time when the area in Contra Costa County was filled with open space and family orchards. “We lived on several acres covered with fruit and walnut trees,” said Sally. “My older brother and I spent hours playing and exploring in this natural wonderland.”
She went on to attend Stanford University, graduating in 1959 with a degree in elementary education. Soon after, she married Albert Knorp. Together, they raised two children and shared 65 loving years of marriage. Sally’s passion for learning and teaching led her to a fulfilling career in elementary education, including her work managing the Math Lab at Las Lomitas School.
Service to others has been a lifelong pursuit for Sally. “Throughout my life, I’ve volunteered in various community enterprises,” she says. For the past 35 years, she has dedicated her time to the Allied Arts Guild Auxiliary, supporting Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. This longstanding commitment speaks to Sally’s generous spirit and deep connection to the community.
A New Chapter in Portola Valley
In July 2024, Sally’s husband, Al, passed away after several years of declining health. With heartfelt reflection, Sally made the decision to sell her home and begin a new chapter. She found a meaningful next step at The Sequoias Portola Valley, a vibrant retirement community nestled in nature.
The Sequoias Portola Valley is situated on 42 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. The Sequoias offer numerous hiking trails to explore, and Windy Hill Preserve is in your backyard. Scenic walks in nature are now part of Sally’s routine at the community.
“I’m happy to say I have found a welcoming new home at The Sequoias Portola Valley,” said Sally. She continues to thrive in a setting that aligns with her values: lifelong learning, meaningful service, and a connection to nature. At The Sequoias Portola Valley, Sally is enjoying building a community with comfort and the freedom to grow on her own terms.
