Never Stop Being Engaged: Mary Kay's Life at Viamonte

Mary Kay Melton stays engaged and thrives at Viamonte, a Sequoia Living community, through active participation in community life, leading the Welcoming Committee, and pursuing personal interests like civic involvement and fitness classes. She was drawn to the concept of a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) like Viamonte at Walnut Creek because she sought community and a desire to remain part of the world, even before she moved in. After living in Sun City Lincoln Hills for 20 years and becoming a widow, she focused on maintaining momentum. In 2016, she learned about Viamonte and, seeing its appeal for an easier, safer, and more productive life, reserved her home. Upon moving in 2020, she found a joyful and supportive community, exceeding her expectations. As chair of the Welcoming Committee, Mary Kay ensures new residents feel seen, supported, and encouraged to participate, helping them navigate their new home and fostering a shared culture of welcome. She also remains deeply involved in civic life, politics, and regularly participates in exercise and strength-training classes at Viamonte, emphasizing physical health as essential to her active lifestyle.
