Rendever VR: Enhancing Senior Living at The Sequoias Portola Valley
The Sequoias Portola Valley offers our residents a unique virtual reality experience to help overcome social isolation. Rendever is a platform that has opened many doors for residents, allowing them to visit or revisit places significant to them.
The Sequoias Portola Valley utilizes the Rendever virtual reality platform to provide residents with unique immersive experiences. This technology helps residents overcome social isolation by allowing them to virtually visit or revisit places significant to them, such as family homes or favorite travel destinations. The Rendever VR experience is currently available to residents in The Sequoias Portola Valley’s memory care, hospice care, and assisted living programs, enabling them to engage with the world in new ways.
During weekly guided activities, residents simply put on a headset and they’re immediately transported into an immersive experience where they can visit family homes, favorite travel destinations, or see where staff grew up.
Residents are able to experience things they never thought possible. One retired physician loved being able to see Stanford Hospital virtually and all the changes they have made. Another was excited to see the home she grew up in was still there.
Another resident had an affinity for the community’s fish tank and would watch them for hours, and loved seeing pets when they came to the community. The VR experience gives her the chance to see the fish up close or even visit a pet shelter – any time she wants to!
Through the Rendever experience, residents can take a stroll down memory lane by revisiting their childhood home, favorite vacation destinations, or anywhere else from their past – allowing them to virtually check off bucket list items or engage with the world in ways never imagined.
